We fight alongside immigrants facing detention and deportation. Legal representation rooted in community, grounded in solidarity, and built to keep families together.
We are attorneys and legal representatives who defend the rights of immigrants to live freely in the United States, to stay in communities where they live, and feel safe to be who they are. Most of our clients are low income and so we represent clients for free or for affordable fees with payment plans.
We prioritize cases of people who are living in our service area (Arkansas, Tennessee, North Mississippi) or who are detained in Louisiana.
We are a non-profit organization, which means that our basic concern is the needs of our clients, not how much money we make.
We consider our clients’ well-being and make sure that as we walk them through their legal process, we also consider other issues that may arise.
We strive to be available for clients when they need us and make sure that our services are affordable.
We work with community partners to ensure that our clients have access to available resources.
We fight for the rights of immigrants but also for the expansion of those rights to ensure that all people are equally protected by the laws of the United States. AIR seeks to create structural and systemic change by coordinating with other legal service providers and community-based organizations to complement our skills and build our mutual capacity. Our service model inherently provides for relationships that will propel our work and the work of our partners.
We take the cases others won’t: people already in detention, parents facing deportation after decades here, asylum seekers with no resources. Our sliding-scale fees mean no one is priced out of representation.
When a parent wins their case, their children grow up with stability. When a detained worker gains freedom, their family keeps their home. That’s not just legal status. That’s legacy.
People who have laid down roots in our communities, built families and friendships, and have become a part of the place we call home. We work to keep our community together and safe, whether people are detained or sponsoring their family members to get legal status.
People who entered the US seeking sanctuary from persecution or torture in their home countries. We fight for the freedom for new arrivals, ensuring that they can access the things they need while engaging with their legal process.
People who are LGBTQI immigrants who are doubly vulnerable to systemic oppression. We approach our service with a specialized respect for a diversity of sexual orientation and gender presentation throughout our practice areas.
